3D Starscream

For my 3D animation class we were told to design 3 different detailed objects to be handed in at the end of term. So for one of them I thought I might as well do Starscream.

The Slender Man

Is it just me or is the slender man the most frightening thing of all time.

A rail thin, seven-foot tall faceless specter in a suit that stalks children from a distance for a few weeks and then suddenly kidnaps them without a word of warning.

This imaginary fiend that was concocted in the mind of some or other disturbed individual on the internet has caused me to have many a sleepless night. Every time I'm walking alone at night or by some trees during the day I see him staring at me from the shadows, biding his time...

Luckily for me I'm 18 and the slender man only kidnaps children!

...right?

R.I.P Sack

For my Classical Animation class I was told to animate a sack that jumps through the air. I killed it.

New 52 Batman is Amazing!!!

DC comics recent relaunch of all their titles might have caused quite a stir in the comic-book reading community when it was announced, but now one year later I think everyone is in complete awe of what the company has achieved. They have pumped new life and vigor into their beloved characters.

None have been done quite so well as Batman however. Scott Snyder, the writer of the new Batman saga has absolutely nailed the character and has put to shame all that came before him. He weaves intricate and fascinating plots that twist, turn and cause you to remember why comic books were so appealing in the first place. The saga is now onto its sixteenth issue and the current storyline which involves a far more evil and psychotic Joker has been absolutely phenomenal.

The art is equally as impressive. Greg Capullo, manages to ground this new Batman in a far darker Gotham than we have ever seen before. The shadows are intense and all the colors, when they do appear, look as if they've been fused with a fair amount of black. Capullo has emerged from the old cliches of spandex and underwear into the the 21st-century, ditching the briefs and giving the Dark Knight practical-looking body armor.

I strongly recommend that anyone and everyone that has a love of comic book movies, comic books or just super heroes in general pick up this amazing series.

God Bless America

Last night my faith was absolutely restored in originality. I watched a film entitled "God Bless America" by Director Bobcat Goldthwait. It revolved around a man in his mid-40's named Frank, who's sick to death of the constant drone of the 9 - 5 lifestyle and the absolute abhorrent status of the morality found in the average modern American citizen. Thus he decides to make a stand venturing across America to kill all of those who have spit in the face of decency.

From the Kardashian's to those excessively annoying people who wont turn off their cellphones during a movie, Frank puts an end to them all. He finally does what all of us have been wishing we could do throughout our entire lives.

Many will find this movie crude and perhaps even pretentious, but I found it extremely refreshing. Instead of just sneering at the despicable behaviors that the citizens of America have developed the creative team behind this film have outwardly spoken against it, something that absolutely had to be done.

And what better way to do it than in a feature length film?

I strongly recommend everyone see this film and afterwards take a moment to reflect on what behaviors they need to expel and what ones they need to start practicing.

An Introduction

Hello! My name is Francois de Nysschen. I'm an 18 year old South African Canadian who aspires to do something great. Whether it be a film I direct, a story I write or a piece of music I compose. My deepest desire is to leave some sort of mark on this world preferably for the advancement of mankind. I, like many others, wish to believe that my life served some greater purpose than to just live. And thus, I moved away from my home in Saskatchewan to the west coast of Canada to see if the creative environment can cause an emergence of any slumbering talents or ideas that I might be harboring inside of my mind. I'm currently attending my first year at Vancouver Film School which has thus far been an absolute blast. I have fantastic parents, fabulous sisters and first-rate friends. Life is floating.
